Visiting our veterinary clinic isn’t strictly about getting shots, it’s about preventing serious disease in your cat, and improving the lifespan and lifestyle of your cat. The more we know about your cat, the better we can design a preventative medicine protocol that will work best for you.

Kittens – kittens are babies, and their immune systems are not yet ready to fight off disease. Their mothers pass on antibodies to help them fight disease for a short period of time after birth. Unfortunately, these same antibodies can interfere with vaccinations. That’s why it’s necessary to give a series of vaccines to booster your kitten’s immune system as their mother’s antibodies are disappearing from their system. This is also the time to screen them over their series of kitten visits for developing genetic problems. Designing a parasite prevention program begins on their first visit.

Adults – once protection has been established in your kitten, it is still important to maintain protection against disease with regular vaccine boosters. Our veterinarians can discuss which vaccines are right for your cat based on its lifestyle. Monthly year-round heartworm prevention is very important, not only to protect against heartworms but also intestinal parasites. Over the adult life of your pet we can discuss and recommend the appropriate preventative care and diet to keep your pet from developing many of the issues that can harm them, including obesity, joint disease and skin problems.

Seniors – as cats age, their immune system can become compromised and many age-related diseases can interfere with their ability to fight off infection. Regular geriatric examinations are important to maintaining your senior family member in the best health possible. Vaccine boosters at appropriate times are part of that plan. We strongly recommend all seniors be examined semi-annually and get yearly diagnostic screenings. Prevention and early intervention are the keys to a long, happy life for your special family member.
